Packing - Who said this was going to be fun?

Just a few more days and we will be leaving Kansas.  So how is the move going so far?  Take a look at the photos!  This is the master bedroom closet.  There are only a few sweatshirts left.  Most everything in here is bedroom, closet and stuff I brought home from work.
Here is the computer room/Andy's room.  Most of this is stuff that was in the desk or my books and Andy's DVD's.  It took two hours just to pack my books.  Andy doesn't like them much.  LOL!
Whoever thought packing was fun, needs their head examined!  It's boring and back breaking.  This is also a tougher pack than usual because its not just across town.  I'm use to packing so it will fit in the car to be shuttled over.  This time, I have to pack to move two states south.  I don't want things to break.   This is the hall closet downstairs.  Most of this are items from the living room and the actual closet.  We found that putting the boxes in the closet it easier so we don't trip over everything!

I never thought of this, but the BEST part of moving in town....my parents van!! Lay down the backseat into a bed and throw all your clothes on the bed, with the hangers on. My whole closet can lay on that bed. This time, I have to pack it. The really funny part....I have more boxes with books than I do boxes with clothes & shoes. LOL!!  BTW - this picture is the entryway to the house...
Okay...time to stop screwing around.  Have to get back to work.  Movers will be here on Saturday.  Wish us luck!!

A New Place To Live

Andy and I are so happy.  One major task of moving to Texas has been accomplished, we have a place to live!  Here are a few photos of the house that we will be renting.  Our new address will be:
12616 Feathering Drive
Frisco, TX  75034

Some of the details about the home.....It was built in 2007.  There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms which will be nice for when visitors want to stay the night!  There is a medium size backyard for the dogs and Andy's grill.  The kitchen doesn't have very many cabinets which I am little concerned about for Andy.  However, Frisco is home of Ikea so maybe we can find some shelves there.  The best thing is that the home comes with appliances!  We knew that finding a washer and dryer would be difficult.  But if was REALLY hard to find a home with a refrigerator!

We still don't have an exact move in date.  The existing tenants are the actual owners of the home.  From what we understand, the owners were orginally from California.  They moved to the Dallas area to setup a home and prepare to live there for the rest of their lives.  However, the male owner's job is requiring the family to move back to California.  So, it is good news for us because they want to leave all their appliances and such here for when they move back home.  Also, we are locked into a one year lease.  If they are able to come back, they won't take the house!

Again, we don't know our move in date.  We do know it will be sometime between June 22 to June 28.  The next major task is finding movers!  Lucky for me, this is Andy's task to complete.  We hope to have a finalized move in date on Tuesday and then find movers within the next week.  Like we have said before, Andy and I are so very excited to start this new adventure.  Once we are settled in, we do want to let EVERYONE know that they will be welcome to come visit.  We have room for you!

Life Update

Dear Family and Friends –

Let me start this by stating that I am sorry to share my life update with you all in an email or on Facebook. I would like to personally tell each of you face-to-face. However, I don’t like the idea of some knowing and others not. By using this way to communicate, everyone will know as soon as they check their email or Facebook. I hope that you all understand.

So, what the heck is going on? Good question!

Yesterday, I turned in my resignation to Fort Leavenworth Frontier Heritage Communities. My final day of employment will be on Friday, June 15th. Okay, why did that happen?

Because Andy and I are moving to Dallas, Texas. WHAT??? You read it correctly, Andy and I are moving to Dallas, Texas.

Andy and I have been offered and accepted positions with a company called Minol. They are basically a 3rd party utility company. They handle all aspects of energy management, conservation and billing. The home office in the US is based in Addison, TX which is between Carrollton and Plano just to the northeast of DFW airport. Their world headquarters are in Germany and there are over 30 offices worldwide.

As many of you know, Andy left Kansas City in February 2011 to teach in Changchun, China. He knew that he was not going to stay there and would eventually come back to the US. However, Kansas City was not his first choice. When Andy did come back in January 2012, he only came back to KC for me (and his dog.) While he was away, we discussed moving. His first choice was California. Let’s face it, they are practically bankrupt and the state is going to fall off into the ocean! We finally decided that Texas was a good place to move to. The economy in Texas is similar to what is happening in North Dakota due to oil production. Unemployment is lower. The cost of living is similar in Texas to Kansas City. It seemed like the right fit. PLUS – my Dad lives there during the week and my cousins family is there for help and support.

So last July, I reached out to my friends at Minol. I am familiar with the company due to my current employer. They are the billing company for Fort Leavenworth and Fort Benning properties which I oversee. I asked if they had any employment opportunities or if there were any companies in the area that had any. Not only did they have a position for me, but Andy was able to secure a position as well!

Our lease expires on June 30th so we will be moving prior to that. Hopefully the moving trucks will come get our stuff around June 18th. Then we will be gone. It’s bittersweet. This is what we want but it is difficult to leave all the family and friends here in Kansas City.

Well, that pretty much wraps up my update. Once we get settled in, I will be sure to send another email to let you all know our new address. Don’t worry though; I am still keeping my phone number. You can take the girl out of the Dotte, but you can’t take the Dotte out of the girl!

I love you all very much. Be sure to stay in touch!!

In the beginning....

So, what am I doing and why am I doing it?  I decided to create a blog as a way of updating friends and family with my adventures.  In about a month, Andy and I will be moving to the Dallas, Texas area.  Unfortuantly, we will be leaving so many of our family and friends.  Anyway, I hope that everyone enjoys reading this.  Feel free to write comments of add questions.  Thanks for reading.  Hope you enjoy.
